    • I have raised several dozen Monarchs since I was a child in Pennsylvania. I’m afraid planting them on the flat at top of hill will have poor results if any due to the soil and lack of good drainage there. Asclepias tuberosa is the shortest of the group (12 to 18” height). Before planting the seeds, soak them in warm water for 24 hours to ensure that moisture breaks through their hard shells and reaches their tiny embryos.       1. Hi Tony, I planted a ton of milkweed seeds this past fall all over my 1 acre back yard. It has purple to pink flower clusters, which are approximately 2 inches wide and appear in the spring. All through summer and into fall the plant is covered with flowers. Hope this helps give an idea of another way to start Milkweed seeds.
